Discerning the Truth
The accounts of Jesus’ death and resurrection are foundational to the gospel message. Although skeptics have come up with theories to try to explain or deny these events, no theory can account for the facts that Jesus died, rose from the dead, and appeared to many witnesses to confirm what happened.
Pre K - 1st Grade
John 19:30, 20:26–28; Matthew 28:1–4, 28:6 & 9
2nd - 6th Grade
1 Corinthians 15:3–28
Objectives:
– Describe several of the common theories that skeptics use to discredit the resurrection.
– Provide biblical refutations to the false resurrection theories.
Jesus died for sinners
Jesus traveled to Jerusalem with the purpose of fulfilling God’s will for him to die on the cross for sinners. When he entered the city, the people welcomed him as their king and Messiah. The Jewish religious leaders were jealous and sought to kill Jesus. Jesus’ own friend and disciple Judas betrayed him, and Jesus was arrested, tried, and given over to the Romans to be crucified. Jesus took the punishment we deserve for sin so that all who repent and trust in him will be saved.
Pre K - 1st Grade
Matthew 21:1–3; Luke 23:46–48
2nd - 6th Grade

entered Jerusalem.
– Identify why Jesus suffered and died on the cross.
Jesus rose from the dead
Jesus was crucified and placed in a tomb, but on the third day he rose from the dead! He appeared to Mary, his disciples, and other followers to show he had risen. Jesus’ death and resurrection conquered sin and death so we can have forgiveness of sin and the promise of eternal life with God.

– Identify the significance of Jesus rising from the dead.
Sharing the Real Jesus
Many religions say that Jesus was a good teacher or a prophet, but this belief ignores the deity of Christ and his role as the promised Savior. When talking to people of other religions, we must explain who Jesus is, according to the Bible, and the importance of belief in his death and resurrection to have eternal life.
